Wheelchairs For HaitiThe National Wheelchair Sports Camp is launching a WHEELCHAIRS FOR HAITI campaign.
Bob Bardwell (Ironwood's Founder and Camp Director) has been a paraplegic since 1973. A construction accident left him paralyzed from the waist down. One of his passions is ‘making a difference’ for those with disabilities. In March of 2000 Bob collected 100+ wheelchairs for Ghana, W. Africa through Wheels for the World.
Now, ten years later, Bob has starting collecting 100+ wheelchairs for another worthy mission in Haiti. Wheelchairs are not needed immediately with all the rubble and destruction, etc but in some months (June/July) down the road many will be needed.
There is a low estimate of 2000 amputees already in Haiti. Let’s do our part in our community spreading the word and collecting wheelchairs. They will be stored in the Rec Center here at Ironwood Springs (home of the National Wheelchair Sports and Recreation Camp).
Shipping/distribution agencies to date include: Medical Teams International, Salvation Army, EFCA Touch Global, Baptist Haiti Mission, Sports Spectrum with SCORE International (Serving Christ Our Redeemer Enterprises), National Guard and Physicians for Peace.
If you would like to be a part of this mission, please spread the word. Contact: bob@ironwoodsprings.com or call 507-533-6707. Drop-off sites so far in Rochester are Salvation Army and Hiawatha Children’s Home.
